Gem Shop in Rockton Illinois
The Gem Shop is located on 110 West Main Street in the quaint downtown area of Rockton. Today you will meet Kevin Mueller.
He is the owners son. I asked Kevin how he got involved in making the custom Jewelry? My father Bruce Mueller was a teacher and one day he brought home clay another teacher was throwing away. I just loved molding things out of the clay. This childhood love led me to making the Wax molds or as it is called Lost Wax Castings. "We have customers that bring in pieces of jewelry they have inherited that is out of style to the degree that they don't want to wear them at all or perhaps worn out, broken or damaged. In either case we can recreate it or redesign it to the customers desires. We actually can take the original gold and melt it down and cast a new item using the same gold if they wish this would then preserve the sentimental value using the same stones and gold that grandmother used." Kevin Mueller I was impressed with Kevins' early interest which only goes to prove the Theory one mans trash is another mans treasure. The Illinois location was started in 1981 by his parents who already had a seasonal shop in Michigan. Anyone from our area knows that Kevin has other loves. He has a fascination for forgotten derelict Antiques. For instance do you know who Irving Kiersey was? Well, Kevin told me that Irving and two Partners built 18 Boats in 1958 and 1959. Kevin started collecting and restoring items where for some reason they didn't catch on but like his work the people had put their heart and souls into it. More information will be coming on Kevin soon as his labor of love of the cars, boats and even bicycles will be brought to you through this page.
